  • scootertig: refractometer is probably coming from China or something... Hey, Mitch, will you be at the O'fest all day?

  • mpilchuk: If any of youse guys are out this weekend (Saturday mostly) the Lovettsville Octoberfest looks to be a good gig. I'll be pouring Smoketown, Old 690, Mustang Sally and I heard Ocelot will be in attendance. LOTs of tents up today as I drove through.

  • hopmonster: 12o IPA self described as "the Holy Grail for hopheads!" Agree? I do not.

  • BJones: Thanks Scoot. I picked up my tickets.

  • scootertig: As a reminder (in case people are interested), Lost Rhino's got a comedy show on Sept. 28th. Tickets are $7 advance, and $10 at the door. Here's the info: [link]

  • hopmonster: Not making it tonight (par for the course) as I will be at something that induces beer consumption... teen driver training. Maybe Andy will bring the 007 bottles as it has aged very well and is interesting. October should allow a Baltic Porter (steam beer yeast), and Bee Smoke (an unusual re-brew, that is the RedX-Honey beer from a year or two ago). Steam yeast is the theme.

  • webnmar: That is $19 including shipping.  That is almost to the level of a disposable refractometer.

  • webnmar: Scoot, I think you have found a corollary to starting you boil, weathering the first boil-over, walking away because it is OK now, and at that very moment, running out of propane.  Then when the 30minute timer goes off you look at the kettle and say, huh, how come it's not boiling?

  • scootertig: Found a new failure mode today: forgetting to turn off the burner before chilling/collecting wort. I guess that chiller does OK after all, as I was down around 80 into the fermenter.

  • hopmonster: "The Most Innovative U.S. Craft Brewery Is In Oxford, Conn." [link] This is just the next step, in my opinion, of the rise of the marketing driven brewery. I am not sure which put me on that off ramp, but when I got the the Maderia Barrel aged Kolsh that is yeast forward with woody-sour notes, I think that sealed the deal. I think I would be less grumpy old man if a style was not named, then obliterated in the name of progress.

  • hopmonster: So, there is a chance to totally mess with the recipe formulation by hijacking the beer AI like the Microsoft Chatbot that went all racist, everything-a-phobic, etc. Read more: [link] Too bad they are going to put a man in the loop, but a good business idea.

  • hopmonster: I was entertaining using it for a super-massive IPA. Amazing that neither you or I have had the pleasure before now.

  • scootertig: I hope I don't hate it

  • scootertig: no big deal, just wanted to set the record straight.

  • grognerd: ah.  saw somewhere it was a brewery.  mea culpa
    September 02, 2016, 07:37:13 AM
  • scootertig: Minor correction: Flying Saucer is a beer bar, not a brewery (and a chain, at that), which probably contributed to his frustration. At a brewery, you sort of expect to get messed up like that. At a restaurant/bar, less so.
