Yeah, I know how to build 'em etc...just never spent the time to get to know the ins and outs of the software/programming/web developing. Anyhow...

Here's what I did moronically...
I upgraded the office PC at my house and essentially set it up with a fresh install of XP. The old machine had 2k on it and I kept that on the old drive which is now the secondary drive so as not to lose information (read: Tax stuff, mail, etc...). But what I didn't do was export all the mail messages from Outlook Express so I could import them in to Office 2003 on the new OS. Is there any way for me short of booting up on the old hard drive to get the old messages from Outlook Express and get them in to Outlook?

Sorry for the OT...but, we ain't got a public house...and I know you guys work on PCs a good bit more than I do.

Cheers,
Greg

Not sure the file for outlook express, but for outlook - just do a search for PST, it's a file type - it's most likely outlook.pst and copy it to your new drive. Once there, change your data file in outlook to point to that file...

I'll do a google search on that... ;)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q270670 is the URL for how to back outlook express - to boot from your other drive, simply open up the computer and just disconnect the NEW drive's IDE cable. It will boot from the other drive (old) and you can preform the steps.

Ok, guess I wasn't clear. I already knew how to get it to boot from the old drive! (LIke I said, short of booting off the other drive...not completely computer illiterate). I also knew how to export from OE6. My question was pertaining to trying to import the old messages without having previously archived/backed it up.

But! I do appreciate you guys getting back to me. I did finally figure it out last night at the last minute when I found a google board thread about obtaining old files if you change you user profile, etc...

I had to go into the 'hidden' (I put quotes because I just love to make fun of Microsoft!) files and folders and search for the *.dbx (Pretty sure thats what I looked for) and imported the store file from the user settings folders. I imported those through OE6 and then it was easy to import them to Outlook. Just took me a while to find the directions I needed. Once I found it, it went easy as pie.

Thanks gang,
Greg

PS-Dryhopping my WheatIPA tmo! Woo! Just what to do with the yeast cake...I guess I could leave some beer on top of it or just not transfer until I brew my smoked porter. (Using same yeast)
