Jana and I are captaining a team again this year, for the festival at Morven Park. Our shift is Sunday afternoon, 2-6:15. As Mitch can attest, the Sunday afternoon shift is fun. Most stations run out of beer during the shift, and if your station runs out, you're free to wander.

I'd appreciate any volunteers who might want to be on my "team", but I know that Dona Lee would appreciate anyone on any team. The official signup page will be up soon, and I'll post a link to that when it goes live, but I figured I'd "put a bug in your ear," so to speak, so you guys could plan ahead...

Sounds like fun. How do I request to be a member of your "team" in the application form?

Good question. I forgot to include that piece.

Just enter "Aaron Hermes" (that's me!) in the field for people you want to be staffed with.

Thanks!

What, are you trying to make the rest of us look bad?

Basic requirement: stand and pour. spilling, head height (that's what she said), etc, are all "bonus qualifications"...

In all seriousness, though, it's nice to have people that know SOMETHING of the beer that they're pouring, so that beer nerds don't come up and act all high-falutin' while you're pouring. Of course, there's no way to know what you'll be pouring until that day, so the best advice I can give is to do as much "research" as possible before the event.

A lot of people think that the pourers are employees of the brewery, and will ask weird questions. It's nice to know enough to be able to answer the basics. I hate it when I'm at a beer festival, and the best info that the pourer can give me is "it's a dark beer, so it's pretty heavy". Um, yeah.

Bump.

we had our "beer captain" meeting last night. The first shift Saturday is completely full, and they don't need any more pourers for Saturday afternoon (they're still looking for people to sell tix, etc).

Sunday is not so full, particularly my shift (2nd shift Sunday). It's always slow to fill, but right now, out of the 26 people needed for my team, we have 9. There are 13 stations, each should have 2 people, and right now, we can't even staff all of them with 1 person.

I appreciate those who have signed up already, but if any of the rest of you are THINKING about it, go for it! It's a blast, I promise.
